Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Girls on the Run of Gaston County was established in 2003 and began with 1 team of 13 girls. Today, we have 49 program sites in Gaston County and have served over 8,900 girls. With the help of our generous sponsors and donors, we are able to provide financial assistance and never turn a girl away due to financial circumstances.

Girls on the Run International was established in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina by Molly Barker. What started with thirteen girls in one school has grown to over 200 councils in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With the help of almost 100,000 volunteers, Girls on the Run served nearly 180,000 girls in 2015, including our millionth girl! Girls on the Run continues to grow and currently hosts more than 350 end-of-season 5K events across the United States, making the Girls on the Run 5K series the largest in the country. Girls on the Run has also expanded to include middle school girls through Heart & Sole, a program dedicated to the unique needs of adolescent girls.

Holly Martin

Executive Director

“Girls on the Run brings together the very best people and support for our girls' futures. It's the program I wish I'd had as a kid, and it's a privilege to be a part of delivering excellent programming to the next generation of leaders. Together we rise!”

Toni Bethune

5k and Special Events Coordinator

“At Girls on the Run we teach that life is not about the cards you are dealt, but how you play your hand. Every girl has their own superstar power and I am thrilled to be apart of the Girls on the Run team to help girls realize their strengths, power, and limitless potential.”

Kathleen Boyce

Director of Development

“The lessons our girls learn in Girls on the Run are truly life-changing. To realize the importance of setting a goal, working towards that goal, and accomplishing it is transformational. All you need to do is stand at the 5k finish line to know this is true.”

Clarissa Finley

Program Manager

“I am honored to to be a part of an organization that believes in the limitless possibilites of girls and women, the importance of girls and women to have a voice, and the impact girls and women have by being bold for change. Girls, and reciprocally women, are taught to be the best version of themselves and achieve their greatest goals.”

We're always considering passionate individuals to join our team and help us inspire more girls in the Gaston and Lincoln County area.
