The History of GOTR of Gaston County

Girls on the Run of Gaston County is an affiliate council of Girls on the Run International.  GOTRGC is sponsored by the
Gaston County Health Department.  The program was presented to the Health Department in 2003  by Captain Chuck Lifford of the Gastonia Police Department.  The Health Department continues to serve as our council's largest supporter.  Other supporters include Commission on the Family, the Community Foundation of Gaston County and the Next Generation Fund of the Community Foundation.

Council Director

Kathleen Boyce
assumed the position of Council Director for Girls on the Run of Gaston County in the fall of 2008.

Kathleen holds a BA degree in English from Davidson College and a Master's Degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has taught high school English, preschool, and middle school Sunday School and has served as a Girl Scout leader.
 
Kathleen is the mother of four daughters (Twins Laura and Sarah, 26; Virginia, 23; and Caroline, 19) and a runner. She is excited to have the opportunity to combine her love of children and her love of running in a position that will benefit the girls of Gaston County.
